Catalina Arevalo

Biography

Catalina Arevalo is an environmental writer and multimedia communicator. For the last 13 years she has worked as environment correspondent, editor, and producer for the world’s largest Spanish-language news organization, EFE News Service, primarily covering climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development. She has reported on a wide range of issues relating to the environment, including ilegal fishing in the Mediterranean; oil- spills in the Amazon; UN Climate Summits; ilegal trade of species; or science, geopolitics and culture in the Arctic. Based in Madrid, she was co-founder of EFEverde, EFE’s online platform for environmental news.

Arevalo´s stories are published and aired widely in the mainstream Spanish language media in Latin America, US Spanish media and Spain. Arevalo is expert in climate change communication, and she authored a study on climate change coverage in Europe for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ) at Oxford University. She was also a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT during the academic year 2013/14.
