Andrea Polanco

Biography

Andrea Polanco is an award winning news reporter at News 5 of Great Belize Television in Belize. She reports extensively on the environment, conservation, climate change and health. In 2012, she won a Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) award for a story about illegal logging within a protected forest called Chiquibul. That same year, she was awarded the Government of Belize’s ‘Youth in Media Award’. In 2018, she received the CBU’s ‘People’s Choice’ award for health story. In addition, she was also honored with five special commendations from the CBU for stories on HIV/AIDS, climate change, conservation and trauma sensitive yoga. She holds a B.A. in Media and Communication from the University of West Indies, Mona Campus in Jamaica, and an M.A. in Television Journalism from Goldsmiths, University of London. Andrea Polanco is a 2018 ICFJ fellow and was a Chevening scholar from 2015-2016.
