Lydia Asamoah

Biography

My Biography/Profile

Lydia Kukua Asamoah is a daring, dynamic, and affable professional journalist who has been practicing journalism for more than 17 years. I am currently working at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) as an Editor, having risen through the ranks of a reporter, a senior reporter, and a chief reporter.

I have the passion for reporting on the Environment, Climate Change and Oil and gas.

In my years of practice, I have been able to display qualities of a good journalist as I have taken steps to develop myself in my chosen career. I’m also a hard working and a strong proponent of media professionalism.

These qualities have made it possible for me to be appointed by the GNA as the current correspondent to cover the current First Lady of Ghana Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, having also covered the immediate past First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, whose term ended after the 2016 general elections.

Having worked for several years with a diploma in journalism certificate, I went back to school in September 2012 for a top-up degree programme in Journalism where I obtained BA Degree in Communication Studies (a Second Class Upper Division) from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, and graduated in May 2014.

With my specialty in reporting on the Environment, I also report on general issues of national interest, especially on issues affecting women and children and on reproduction health. With the advent of discovering of Oil in Ghana, I developed interest in the area and have been developing important contacts that make me a critical source of important stories in the area.

Throughout my profession, I have been able to impact society and my country through the various reports I filed daily be it from a scheduled assignment or unscheduled assignment. I always look out for issues that best affect the people, do the necessary follow-ups and report accurately on them, all aimed at well-informing my audiences to effect the needed change.

On my professional achievements, I will say over the years of practice, I have been commended by my News organisation for various articles and outstanding reports I have filed both at home and from abroad which have added to the fortunes of the Agency as the mother of the Ghanaian media that feeds most of the news media including the numerous radio, television, newspapers and on-line media entities in Ghana.

I have won some internal awards "the story of the week" award on two consecutive weeks at my workplace. "The story of the week" programme was set out by management of the Ghana News Agency to reward outstanding news reports that are filed in a week.

I have also covered various international programmes and conferences including the International conference on Population and Development (ICPD+15) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, attended training on climate change reporting and on Oil and gas in Accra, Ghana, Kampala, Uganda and Cote d'Ivoire and other conferences in Kenya and Azerbaijan and Germany.
