As part of the Climate News Network, Alex mentors and trains journalists and others. He became a journalist because he believes it is one of the best ways to build a better world. With his work, Kirby hopes to help to avoid climate catastrophe and to appreciate that "we and all species are one inter-dependent web of life." In 2017 Alex Kirby was named environment journalist of the year at the UK Regional Press Awards.
