At The Star, he covered main beats and major events especially the rise of terrorism and radicalization and begun writing security stories for the region. Andrew had a short stint as a freelance photojournalist where he covered politics, natural disasters, security and other main events for international agencies including AFP, AP and Xinhua across the Coast areas, before returning back to the Star newspaper.

He has over the years transformed to be a writing photojournalist, and has covered events in interior parts of the country including events for indigenous communities, impacts of floods and droughts among pastoral communities and other major incidents.

In 2020, he won the Resilience Award in his internal annual newspaper awards. Having covered droughts and floods for some years he has nurtured his interest in environment and climate change and has been to some of the country's national parks, forests and Kenyan Coast line for conservation stories.
