David Casimir is a journalist based in Rodrigues Island, Mauritius. He has more than ten years of experience as News Editor and Journaliste Reporteur d'Images covering general news. David Casimir is a permanent employee as News Editor/Journaliste Reporteur d'Images(JRI) at the MBC-Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation. He works for Television, Radio and Online web media. Even though he covers general news, he is more focused on environmental issues such as climate change and sustainable fisheries. He works with a lot with environmental organizations such as Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, TER-MER Rodriguez, Friends of the Earth, etc... who are engaged in the protection of ecosystems. Regarding Sustainable Fisheries, he is a founder member of the MOSFA-Media Observatory for Sustainable Fisheries in Africa.
He has been recognized for one of his recent works concerning the contribution of tourism sector in the protection of the environment during the Covid pandemic. During the “MEDIA TRUST AWARD 2021” he received the “Special Jury Award” for “Best Multimedia Production”, the annual national event for recognition of best journalism work in Mauritius.
David Casimir is a multi-lingual journalist working fluently in French, English and Creole. He holds a “Certificate in Communication, Media and Journalism” from the Open University of Mauritius. He is pursuing his study for a Bachelor’s Degree – BA(Hons.) Communication, Media and Journalism. He has been trained for coverage of sustainable fishing and attended training sessions organized by the World Bank in Ghana in 2016. He has also followed a mentorship and fellowship program for the COP26 organized by SAMSA and was part of a collaborative newsroom with journalists from Small Islands Developing States. Casimir was a fellow of EJN Fellowship for Virtual coverage of COP15 in Abidjan in early 2022. He is a dedicated and well-motivated journalist who always want to reach excellence in his work.
