Dhashen is a narrative journalist making stories in Africa. He's particularly interested in investigations into people who are trying to solve overwhelming problems. Dhashen is a senior podcast producer with The Children's Radio Foundation (CRF), where he's currently leading the production of a podcast series about climate change in Zambia and South Africa. His past series on youth unemployment in Alexandra, a township in Johannesburg, was listed among Spotify's top South African podcasts for 2022.
Over the past 18 years, he has produced stories for 99% invisible, Foreign Policy, UNICEF Africa, Voice of America, SciDev, Mail & Guardian, The Africa Report, Sound Africa, South African Broadcasting Corporation and eNews Channel Africa. He has worked in nearly every newsroom position, from reporter to prime-time anchor and editor.
Dhashen has worked as a fixer, stringer, recordist (tape syncs) and/or contributor for the New York Times, Vanity Fair, Vice, Dateline, and Channel 4 News UK. He holds a bachelor of commerce degree in marketing and management; and certificates in newsroom management, data journalism, and science reporting. Dhashen lives in Johannesburg with his three dogs, who want more walks at the park.
