Gaea Katreena Cabico is a journalist from the Philippines. She writes stories about the environment, climate change, human rights and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
A journalism graduate from the University of Santo Tomas, Gaea joined Philstar.com, a Manila-based online newsroom, in 2017. In 2019, she began environmental and climate reporting because she believes that the climate crisis is a cross cutting-issue and affects people’s basic rights.
Gaea was one of the top 10 finalists for the 2020 Journalism for an Equitable Asia Award for her story about the human and environmental costs of an airport project in Manila Bay. She received a story grant from EJN in 2020 and is also a past fellow of Climate Tracker’s Global Mentorship for Young Media Professionals.
Gaea wants to do more stories about communities vulnerable to the effects of climate change and the people on the periphery.
