Biography

Ishmael Kindama Dumbuya is a Sierra Leonean environmental journalist who has been working with the Standard Times Newspaper since 2006. He also freelances for both national and international media organizations. Ishmael’s work has covered issues such as climate change, agriculture, ocean/blue economy and sustainable development, among others. 

He is currently one of the founding members and Director of the Sierra Leone Environmental Journalists Association. He is a member of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists and a founding member of the African Federation of Environmental Journalists, member of the African Network of Environmental Journalists, and an aspiring member of the Forum of African Investigative Reporters.

Ishmael has won ten National Media Awards from the Independent Media Commission and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists for his stories on environment, tourism and agriculture. He also won 3rd place in the Sierra Leone MDGs Writing Award in 2006, which was organized by Taking It Global, Canada.
