Biography
His journalistic career started at the Jawa Pos Group, one of the largest media groups in Indonesia, with his last position as editor-in-chief (5 years). After leaving the Jawa Pos Group, he later joined WartaBromo.com, one of the largest local media platforms in East Java. In between, Asad also writes for several media. Like VICE Indonesia and also Mongabay Indonesia. Several coverage topics became his interest. Especially those related to human rights, corruption, environmental crimes, pollution, corporate crimes and also public policy.
Some of the coverage he has done includes investigation of grant funds organized by AJI-KPK (2018), investigation of "Selling Medical Waste" (Tempo-The Press Unlimited 2019), Investigation of Funds for Covid-19 Aid Recipients (Tempo Fellowship 2020), Manipulation Pharmaceutical Industry Subsidy (The Prakarsa Fellowship 2020) as well as gold mining investigations in Trenggalek Regency, East Java involving 'fake' companies as well as large corporations.In 2020, Asad also received a Small Grant from the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) for an environmental journalism investigation program. And this year, Asad also became a fellowship participant from a media consortium in three countries (Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines).
