Alejandro Castro is a journalist based in Cancun, Mexico. His daily work is published in the local newspaper Novedades de Quintana Roo. He is also a correspondent for national media outlets Aristegui Noticias, El Heraldo de México and a stringer of Agence France Presse. His regular reporting is related to environmental issues, human rights and conflicts.
In 2019 and 2020, Alejandro received a grant from the Earth Journalism Network to produce stories about environmental threats facing reef systems in the Yucatan Peninsula. He also won an internship at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in alliance with Connectas. Alejandro studied Communication Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) with a focus on political communication and is co-founder of Red de Periodistas de Quintana Roo, a group of journalists that defends the rights of local media workers.
