Ain is a journalist and media entrepreneur, with more than a decade’s experience covering Brunei and Southeast Asia. After seven years working for the English-language daily, The Brunei Times, she co-founded The Scoop in 2017 as a platform for independent journalism. Aimed at a largely millennial audience, The Scoop has grown from a scrappy start-up to become Brunei's most popular news website, with a strong commitment to public service journalism. Ain oversees the editorial content and day-to-day operations of the publication, which is the country's first – and only – women-led newsroom. The Scoop has also partnered with the ASEAN Foundation and the Google News Initiative to facilitate journalism workshops for Southeast Asian youth, and will soon launch a nationwide outreach programme to fight disinformation.
Over her career, Ain has covered a wide range of issues from diplomacy and security, to human rights and the environment. She contributes to a number of international publications, and her work has appeared in Reuters, AFP, and The New York Times, among others.
