
Biography
Rhick Lars Vladimer Albay is a freelance writer and journalist based in Iloilo City, Philippines. Predominantly reporting on hyperlocal cultural, business, and environment stories, his byline has appeared in a handful of regional and international publications including ANCX, Rappler, Esquire Philippines, the International Business Times, and Eco-Business.
Albay’s work has received awards and citations from the Globe Media Excellence Awards, the University of the Philippines Visayas Media Excellence Awards, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Philippine Information Agency, Megaworld Corporation, AnakTV, and the Embassy of Chile, among others. He is a fellow of the Earth Journalism Network’s Biodiversity Media Initiative and the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism's Uncovering LGUs fellowship, as well as the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s Reporting on Social Inclusion Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic program.
He is also a core member of the Global Shapers Iloilo Hub, a diverse collective of young individuals seeking to spark necessary change in their home city of Iloilo.
