With support from EJN, in June of 2012, a group of 30 journalists that included fellows, editors, trainers and staff from 20 countries traveled to Rio de Janeiro to attend and cover the negotiations of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, also known as the Rio+20 Summit.
Over 10 days, the journalists participated in capacity-building activities focused on the main themes of the international meeting; met with representatives from government agencies, civil society, and multilateral organizations; and provided locally relevant reporting to audiences back home.
The initiative was supported by Fundo Vale, a Brazilian foundation dedicated to nature conservation projects. Additional support was also provided by the Botza Foundation, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and an anonymous donor to Internews.
During Rio+20, EJN staff and O Eco launched InfoAmazonia, an interactive map that provides timely news and reports of environmental threats in Amazon region through the innovative visualization of data. To read more about the launch, click here.
