A global deal for protecting life on Earth: What’s in the first draft?
Under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), governments around the world have agreed a vision of “living in harmony with nature” by 2050. But most signs show that humanity is heading in the opposite direction. To turn things around, parties to the CBD will later this year agree on a new global deal that sets out what action they will take in the next decade.
A CBD working group has now produced a first draft of this ‘Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework”. In this webinar, Basile van Havre, co-chair of the working group, discusses what is in the draft text and what remains up for negotiation when governments that are party to the CBD meet in China in October to finalize the agreement.
Speaker:
- Basile van Havre – co-Chair for the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Open-Ended Working Group
Moderator:
- Mike Shanahan – EJN Project Director, Internews Europe
