COVID-19 and the Environmental Crisis
Beyond reporting COVID-19 cases and fatalities, journalists have a huge opportunity to tell stories about how this pandemic is just part of a series of disasters emerging from our planet’s unfolding environmental crisis.
In this webinar, you'll learn how to harness data to expose inequality, wildlife trafficking and other issues related to COVID-19.
Data journalist Eva Constantaras shares several data sources that journalists can explore to explain how pollution, droughts, deforestation, industrial food production and other forces combine to make COVID-19 so dangerous for those bearing the brunt of climate change.
Roxanne Joseph from Oxpeckers Investigative Environmental Journalism introduces the #WildEye Asia data journalism tool, which provides easy access to information on legal interventions into illegal wildlife trafficking by monitoring seizures, arrests, court cases and convictions across Asia. And Bao Choy, an open data and investigative journalist from Hong Kong, demonstrates how she used Chinese court records to produce a data-driven investigation into the illegal wildlife trade for #WildEye Asia.
