The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is currently completing its Sixth Assessment (AR6). The first part, the Working Group I report, is now live. It explores the physical science underpinning past, present and future climate change, with a new focus on providing regional data. The report will have major implications for policy across the globe, as nations will use it to negotiate at COP26 this November. How can journalists effectively cover its findings for their communities?

In this webinar, IPCC experts explored the following subjects and took questions:

  • What is the significance of the Working Group I report, and why is it important for journalists to cover it?
  • What are the key highlights and findings in the WGI report?
  • What is different about this year’s report, including IPCC’s new focus on regional data? What are the implications of this new direction?
  • What should journalists know about the report’s contents that will be relevant for their audiences across the world?

Speakers:

  • Youba Sokona – Vice-Chair, IPCC (email)
  • Carolina Vera – Vice-Chair, IPCC Working Group I and Professor at the University of Buenos Aires
