Turning global climate science into local stories: The IPCC Working Group I report
The United Nations established the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1988 to report on the state of climate change globally. On August 9, 2021, the IPCC’s Working Group I will release a new report – the first of three working group reports in their 6th Assessment Report – on the physical science behind climate change. To cover the report’s potential impacts, journalists will need to distill its findings and present them to local audiences in relevant and useful ways.
At this webinar for journalists, held in the lead-up to the report’s release, IPCC and journalism experts explore the following topics:
- What is the purpose of the IPCC, and how does it work?
- What should journalists expect from the upcoming Working Group I report?
- Where can journalists find information about the IPCC and the upcoming report’s findings?
- What is the new Interactive Atlas tool being prepared by the IPCC and how can journalists use it?
- What should journalists know about covering the IPCC and its Working Groups?
- How can journalists make the report’s findings useful and relevant on the ground?
