COP16: On the Eve of the Closing, Some Issues Are Still Far From Reaching a Consensus
The COP16 on biodiversity closes its doors this Friday, November 1, 2024. If certain questions have almost or found consensus, this is not the case for others a few hours before the closing of these meetings. Among the key issues of this COP is the mobilization of resources and the sharing of benefits arising from the use of digital sequencing information (DSI). On these two points, the violins do not agree between the different parts.
“For resource mobilization and digital sequencing information, as a reminder of the work to be done. During these last days the government of Colombia, which has the presidency of the COP with other ministers, has sought consensus in the regions for these two issues. At the moment there are enormous disagreements which prevent the conclusion of these negotiations,” says David Ainsworth Head of Communications of the United Nations Secretariat on Biological Diversity.
