COP28: Women in Developing Countries Hard Hit by Climate Change

A group of experts on women, health and climate change at the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, warned that women in poor and developing countries are significantly impacted by rising temperatures.

Traditional and socioeconomic roles make it extremely difficult for women to find ways to alleviate climate impacts as they shoulder care-taking responsibilities while working to make ends meet.

"80% of climate migrants are women. When women migrate, they face high risk of violence, human trafficking, suspending or quitting school and losing job opportunities. They are also more likely to die during natural disasters," said Hillary Clinton, former US Secretary of State and Arsht-Rock Global Ambassador for Heat, Health, and Gender, in Dubai.
