Empowering Yemeni Women: A Journey from Adversity to Clean Energy Leadership

Eman, a resilient woman in her 30s, has traveled from the war-torn region of Abs, Hajjah, in north Yemen to participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Dressed in traditional Yemeni attire, she has come to share her inspiring story of leading a clean energy project in a country grappling with an energy crisis.

“I hail from a very impoverished background,” Eman admits with unwavering honesty. “Upon graduating from the finance department, I diligently searched for employment, but opportunities were scarce.”

Undeterred by the daunting circumstances of poverty, home loss and displacement, Eman persevered. She discovered a workshop on women’s livelihood projects funded by the UNDP in her area and seized the opportunity to take part. The training culminated in providing each participant with funds to establish their own project.
