The World Ocean’s day celebrated under the global theme, “Preventing Plastic Pollution and providing solution for a healthy ocean”; had as its local theme, “saving the ocean, our collective responsibility “.
The Executive Director of JFRE called on government to reduce the plastic menace ; “…government must ensure to set up a plastic waste recycling plant in every region at least , as part of the one district one factory initiative, if government wants to be taken serious..” ; he said.
Speaking on the littering of the beaches, Nii Armah a fisherman at Elmina Beach who has been fishing for the past 34 years called for stiffer punishment for those who indulge in that.

Some fishmongers who spoke to Empirefmonline also asked for skip containers to be placed at the Elmina Beach and emptied regularly if the beach is to be clean.
Nana Mensah Bonsu who is the chief fisherman of Moree Etuei confirmed to Empirefm online, the dangers of plastics on sea mammals and called in his colleague fishermen to desist from polluting the ocean. He decried the activities of sand winning and bemoaned the lack of a standard landing beach for the area.
