In Sfax, Tunisia, the Activity of Offshore Oil Companies Negatively Affects Fisheries

Lazhar is a fisherman from Gargour, a village in the region of Sfax. He is one of the numerous fishermen whose livelihood has been impacted by the activities of the oil and gas companies active in the Sfax seas. Many fishers consider that these activities have damaged their works and had serious repercussions on the biological diversity of the gulf of Gabes, which is home to important biological resources and rich marine ecosystems. The gulf has recently started to show evidence of the impacts of the substances released by the offshore oil and gas companies' activities.

Bahira Ouji investigates those activities and how they have impacted marine biodiversity in the region of Sfax.
