Part One: No Clarity on Deaths of Upington Farmworkers Who Died During the January Heatwave

South Africa promised the world that it has a plan to combat climate change and reach carbon neutral by 2050. This would include the total phasing out of coal reliance for energy generation and force the country to look at alternative energy sources, such as solar and wind. The government committed to a just energy transition with promises of international donor funding to achieve this. But while solar farms are popping up all over the Northern Cape, locals seem more worried about the impact of climate change on their daily lives, including the deadly heatwave in January.
