Representatives at COP29 Trying to Agree on Climate Finance for Developing Countries

The annual UN climate conference continues in Baku. Representatives from nearly 200 countries are trying to agree on climate finance for developing countries by the end of the week. The money is intended to help them cope with the effects of climate change and move their economies away from fossil fuels.
Instead of the current $100 billion a year - about CZK 2.5 trillion - developing countries need several times that amount, according to their negotiators. The European Union wants more of the state to contribute to the necessary measures than it does now and more private sector involvement, says Jan Dusík, the European Commission's deputy director-general for climate policy. At the COP, countries will also continue to discuss the rules of the global market for so-called carbon credits.
