Romania's Minister of Energy at COP29: 'We Are Not Negotiating Our Energy Security'

Romania will sign off on the construction of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda this week, Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja announced on Tuesday in a video post on Facebook. The energy minister is participating in the 29th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“I am here at the most important annual event for energy and climate. It is a meeting attended by over 40,000 people from all over the world and here I wanted to convey Romania’s message to everyone. Romania’s message is that we are writing history in energy,” Sebastian Burduja said on the social network.

"We have investments of over 13 billion euros in non-reimbursable funds in the last year and a half, we have over 10,000 megawatts in solar and wind, new projects, we have 3,500 megawatts in gas groups, we are the largest gas producer in the European Union and in 2027 we will double our production through Neptun Deep. We have an ambitious civil nuclear program that does not depend in any way on the Russian Federation, it is with western technology, and we are preparing to sign the most important project for the Romanian energy sector, reactors 3 and 4. And this will happen this week, right here in Baku. I will keep you updated. I want you to be with your heads held high... in front of the whole world," the minister also wrote.
