Pasifika Environews

Pasifika Environews (formerly known as InfoPacific) was developed as part of the Pacific GeoJournalism project to support and aggregate environmental and climate change stories and data from throughout the Pacific Islands. It puts particular emphasis on covering how a changing climate is affecting local communities, including how these communities are adapting to such changes through collective and individual actions and policy decisions.  

Inhabitants of the Pacific Islands have been among the first impacted by climate-related events, such as rising seas and increasingly extreme weather. But there has been a lack of attention and resources dedicated to helping local media report stories about the problems resulting from these climate impacts.

To address this gap, EJN helps supports the website and its content, which is managed by the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA). Stories come from Pacific Island journalists and PINA’s regional news service, PACNEWS.

Beyond supporting this website, EJN works to improve the quantity and quality of information on climate change impacts and resilience strategies available to communities by equipping local journalists with the skills and know-how to produce fact-based, solutions-oriented coverage of climate change adaptation issues.
